More than 140 international volunteers from 25 countries will help in the Mediterranean Games of Tarragona

Mundus Association, in collaboration with the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Tarragona City Council and the Mediterranean Games Foundation organizes the project "EVS in XVIII Mediterranean Games Tarragona 2018", co-financed by the European Commission through the Erasmus + program and the Generalitat de Catalunya

The project brings together 143 volunteers from 25 different countries, including a group of 9 refugees hosted in Catalonia, who stay and live in the Educational Complex of Tarragona. The volunteers arrived in Tarragona on June 7 and will be until next July 8, participating in "EVSMeGa" which aims to connect the young population of Asia, Africa and Europe in a sports competition, through the promotion of geopolitical and cultural integration of these continents in the Mediterranean area.

The official inauguration took place in the plenary hall of the City Council of Tarragona, with representatives of the town hall itself (Javier Villamajor, third deputy mayor of Tarragona and curator of the Games), the Representation of the European Commission in Barcelona (Ferran Tarradellas, director ), the Catalan Youth Agency (Francesc Poch, director) the Generalitat de Catalunya (Oriol Amorós, General Secretary of Equality, Migration and Citizenship; Yolanda Muro, Secretary of Foreign Affairs and of the European Union; Joan Plana, Territorial Representative of Sport in Tarragona) and the Mundus Association (Alberto Tortolero, president).

Tortolero thanked all public institutions for collaborating in the organization of this great event and for creating synergy between public bodies and private entities. Poch stressed that youth mobility "is one of the most important tools for building peace," and Tarradellas has thanked the Erasmus + program for giving the opportunity to gather young people from both sides of the Mediterranean to "build bridges." Amorós, on the other hand, wanted to highlight the collaboration between the Mundus Association and the Ministry of Migration to give 9 young refugees the opportunity to participate in the project, as a tool for social integration in Catalonia.
