Profile of candidates:

-Young male volunteers (18-30 years old) resident in a Program or Partner Country. We have already selected females and we are now selecting males to keep the gender balance.

-Able to communicate in Spanish (English is an extra)

-Motivated, sociable, proactive, open-minded, tolerant, creative, self-reliant person.

-Someone who has no problems with sharing a flat/room with other people.

-Someone who does not want to come to Barcelona or Catalonia for holidays

-Someone who has some experience (as volunteer, student or professional) and interest to develop a career in the social work field giving support to people with disabilities.

Description of the project and coordinator

Asociación Mundus is an organisation that manages mobility opportunities for young people and promotes volunteering, values-based education, intercultural learning and non-formal education in the local community. Our main office is located in the youth centre of Santa Coloma de Gramenet, a town next to Barcelona (20 minutes from city centre by Metro) but we cooperate with different organisations in different locations.

This volunteering project is a long term ESC designed to enable volunteers to develop their personal and professional skills through helping in different local projects and activities.

Description of hosting organisation

Fundació Tallers de Catalunya – Santa Coloma de Gramenet (2 volunteers)

Fundació Tallers is an organisation that aims at giving equal opportunities and provide a safe environment for people who suffer intellectual disabilities. Nowadays they give support to 450 people by giving them the opportunity to have a job, to access social life and participate in the local community through different activities.

The volunteers will help in the activities with people who suffer mental disabilities. They will take part in many activities organised by giving support to the professionals and the participants: mindfulness, computing, cooking, swimming, library, emotion management, various sports, gardening, assembly, aging transition, radio, hydrotherapy, karate, moviterapia, amongst others. The methodology of the activities is different, the objective is to give people the same opportunities, promoting their inclusion, well-being and right of self-determination.

Common activities

This project is part of a bigger project coordinated by Mundus where 22 volunteers will come at the same time to carry out their ESC projct. All 22 volunteers will have the opportunity to develop their own personal projects and will carry out some common activities (already implemented by former EVS volunteers) in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Sabadell, Tarragona or Girona, depending on the project placement.

For example: language and culture courses for youth and the “Lingüistic Café”. Moreover, they will have the chance to be part and help in some of our workshops, events, meetings and projects with the local and international community.

Accomodation and logistic matters

As a volunteers you will be hosted in a local family in Santa Coloma de Gramenet having the opportunity to inmerse in the daily life of locals. You will be provided of transport card in case you need it, but most families live close enough to the centre so you most probably will go on food to your volunteering project.

You will receive monthly pocket money to cover your food and life expenses. As an ESC volunteers you will be covered by CIGNA insurance and wil get your flight or transport covered up to the European Commision table distance rates.

When will you know the results of the selection process?

We will receive Application Forms from candidates until 20th of July. After that we will have Skype meetings with the participants that match with the requirements and select the volunteer so he can start at beginning of September. We will only consider candidates who send the form within the deadline.
