About my EVS:

Why did you decide to do an EVS?

I have decided to do an EVS because I wanted to acquire more knowledge and improve the language. I chose this project because I had never worked with people with disabilities and also because I wanted to contribute with my experiences and my the knowledge that I had as background from my country (Italy). I knew it was not an easy experience, but I was raised about the fact that I could live alone, to discover and learn new things. I have participated in another EU program before, doing an Erasmus+ in a Spanish university. This has also been an important experience in my life, I have been able to meet many people from different countries, a new culture ... After this experience, I wanted to return to Spain because I fell in love with the culture.

What is your EVS about?

My experience as a volunteer has been wonderful. I have volunteered at Fundació Tallers, with people with disabilities of different ages. My tasks consisted in supporting and reinforcing  the independence and self-determination of these people. I was also accompanying the boys in their free time activities.

And how do you feel about your expectations now?

My expectations before arriving were very high, now I can say that all the experience has gone better than I expected; I learned a lot, I met wonderful people both in the foundation and in the community.

Do you feel like being a part of a process?

I have been accepted very well by everyone and as well helped when I needed. I have been lucky because I lived with local people, with a family and, thus, tI get to know the local customs better.

About your perspectives, does this project give you the motivation to keep working in this framework?

This experience gave me the opportunity to think about my life, my dreams, interests and expectations.

Your best project memory:

One of the most best moments of this experience was in June 29 when we had the volunteer party, organized by the Tallers Foundation. I will always remember this day because I had to make a speech, telling my experience as a volunteer. I remember my mood, the fear I had standing in front of so many people and trying to express all the feelings that I have been through while doing this project.
